Hello and Welcome!
Hi. I’m Judy Almazan Stuhmer (she/her). Thank you for being here. No matter what brought you, know that you are not alone and there is hope! Whatever you’re experiencing or experienced—and however it shows up in your life—these as natural responses to what has happened to you and not a reflection of who you are. As we begin to understand and care for our wounds, they can become a source of profound transformation, liberation, and even joy. This is my hope for you.

A New Experience
Working with folks from all walks of life, my aim is to understand challenges that interfere with your well-being from the context of your unique life experience.
I offer a warm, non-judgmental presence that welcomes all aspects of you. Together, we’ll begin to explore what means most to you and take things at your pace. Because no two people are the same, as we find a way forward, our work together is tailored to your needs.

How I work
Influenced by many perspectives, my approach is grounded in existential therapy (how we fit into the world); somatics (learning the language of our bodies); parts work (Internal Family Systems/IFS-informed); and EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), an experiential and effective way to heal from complex and unprocessed trauma.

About Trauma
While the word is used more often now and means different things to different people, at its core, trauma simply means wound. Wounds can be personal or shared, and can be obvious or difficult to name. Sometimes there aren’t words to describe what you’re feeling, there’s just a sense that something’s off.
I’ve come to see that many of the struggles we face, both individually and collectively, are rooted in these wounds. Because trauma happens relationally, healing happens relationally as well. It’s never too late to have a different experience and relationship with our pain, ourselves, and people in our lives.

As a biracial person (Filipina & Polish/Lithuanian), I work well with folks who struggle with a sense of identity and belonging resulting in things like:
Persistent self-doubt or feelings of shame (even if everything may look okay on the outside),
Difficulty prioritizing needs in relationships
Perfectionism
Detaching from our bodies and/or
Stuck in outdated coping strategies.
Formerly, I worked as a professional graphic designer and branding expert. Much of that work focused on relational systems, emotional connections, and identifying core beliefs. This experience led me back to school to earn a masters degree in counseling and certification in trauma.
Now I have the privilege of contributing to people’s holistic well-being on deeper levels. I continue to be curious and inspired to uncover ways family, culture, and systems of oppression impact our sense of self, our values, and our overall health.

In a nutshell.
“That luminous part of you that exists beyond personality—your soul, if you will—is as bright and shining as any that has ever been....
Believe it exists, come to know it, nurture it, share its fruits tirelessly.”
~George Saunders
